Bell XP-83

- an American prototype fighter aircraft of W orld War II In 1944, the American aviation decision was made to w ork towards long-range fighter aircraft which was to provide an e scort for the bombers during their flights over the Pacific Ocean . One of the company which undertook to develop such an aircraft was a Bell Aircraft Corp. factory., Which proposed a fighter jet-driven, based on an existing aircraft P-59 Airacomet. In July 1944, signed a deal with the construction of two prototype aircraft, which received the designation XP-83 (unofficial name Airarattler - Flying rattlesnake).
